Der Rock 'n' Roll Marathon San Diego zählt zu den größten Laufveranstaltungen Amerikas.
Jährlich nehmen an allen Bewerben rund 25.000 Läufer und Läuferinnen teil. Das größte Teilnehermfeld stellt der Halbmarathon mit etwa 16.000 Startern.
Im Jahr 2020 wurde der für 31. Mai geplante Marathon San Diego aufgrund des Coronavirus abgesagt.

Leading runners through San Diego's most iconic neighborhoods, the races take off from the historic start line at Balboa Park and travel through Hillcrest, North Park and Normal Heights before the Marathon breaks from the Half Marathon just past mile 8. The route also runs through Mission Hills, Old Town and Mission Bay Park before both the Marathon and Half Marathon finish downtown at Waterfront Park, where they will be greeted by Matt Nathanson at the finish line festival.
