The Lattelecom Riga Marathon was born one year after Latvia’s renewal of independence, and it reached its 25th anniversary in 2015. During this time, the Lattelecom Riga Marathon has popularised the running movement and has established the city of Riga as a special place to feel the power of the marathon both by running and by supporting the runners. In 2017, 32,000 runners - professionals and enthusiasts - stood at the starting line. Thanks to each participant, the Lattelecom Riga Marathon became the largest running event in the Baltics. For the fifth year in a row, the Lattelecom Riga Marathon has earned a Bronze Label from the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF), becoming the only marathon in Northern Europe, and one of only a few tens of marathons in the world, to receive this prestigious assessment of quality.
From a few thousand participants, the Lattelecom Riga Marathon has grown to become a running movement and has become ingrained in its followers - runners and supporters - as the place to be.
