The biggest sporting events are all held in the Czech capital, Prague.
3 great running events in Prague
In April, the Prague Half Marathon brings masses of runners to Prague's Old Town. This race is one of the fastest half marathons on the planet. Stars like Galen Rupp, Peter Kirui, Daniel Wanjiru, Atsedu Tsegay and former world record holder Zersenay Tadese have already won here. In the women's race, Joyciline Jepkosgei even ran a world record in 2017 with 1:04:52 hours, but this has since been improved. More than 10,000 male and female runners compete in the half marathon. Many of them reward themselves with a personal best.
Personal bests are also possible at the Prague Marathon, which is also organized by RunCzech in the spring. The race takes place one month after the half marathon. The Prague Marathon celebrated its premiere in 1995 and has since grown into a major event with almost 10,000 marathon runners. Here, too, the times of the top stars are impressive. In the women's category, Israel's Lonah-Chemtai Salpeter achieved the first marathon time under 2:20 hours on Czech soil with 2:19:46 hours.
In September you will also have the opportunity to improve your 10-kilometer best time. As with the half marathon, the Birell Prague Grand Prix is one of the fastest 10-kilometer races in the world. This was proven in 2018 by African Rhonex Kipruto, who ran 26:46 minutes, the second-fastest 10-kilometer time ever achieved on the road over a 10-kilometer race at the time.
Other event tips in the Czech Republic
Another nice spring half marathon is the Karlovy Vary Half Marathon in Carlsbad. The event boasts 4,000 half marathon starters. Also well-attended half marathons are the České Budějovice Half Marathon in České Budějovice, the Olomouc Half Marathon in Olomouc and the Pardubice Wine Half Marathon.
For triathletes, it's worth starting at Challenge Prague. A beautiful trail run in nature is the Liberec Nature Run, which was organized for runners for the first time in 2018 by RunCzech.
