You want to complete a competition over five kilometers?
Absolutely no problem in Switzerland. Because every year there are almost 100 different events with a race over the 5 kilometer distance.
Why you should run a race over the 5 kilometers!
The five kilometers are anything but out, even if marathons, trails and mountain runs attract the running masses. After all, a run over five kilometers has its appeal for almost everyone who enjoys exercise. Beginners can gain their first competitive experience over this distance. After all, successfully completing a five-kilometer course does not necessarily require long and focused training. Almost anyone can run five kilometers at a stretch without training. Of course, the time then plays a subordinate role.
Ideal as a form test
But even for runners with sporting ambitions, a five-kilometer race is definitely an option. A run over this short distance can almost always be scheduled at short notice. The recovery time after the race is relatively short. For each kilometer of competition, you have to reckon with about half a day's rest until complete physical recovery. This means that after a 5-kilometer race you will be fully fit again after two and a half days. This in turn means that the recovery period is much shorter, such as after a half marathon or a marathon.
By the way, the fastest runners in the world cover the five kilometers in around 13 minutes. Ambitious runners can do it in 15 to 16 minutes. Very fast women, on the other hand, easily crack the 20-minute mark. But where in Switzerland can you run the five kilometers?
Our recommendations in Switzerland
You can start the hunt for a personal best time at the Ascona-Locarno Run, for example. At the running event in the canton of Ticino, the 5-kilometer run is held on Saturday evening, before the 10-kilometer run and half marathon follow on Sunday.
Another nice city run is the Mizuno Städtlilauf in Wangen, where you can also choose between the 10-kilometer distance and the 5-kilometer distance. The event is held in June. As early as March, jogging takes place in the middle of nature at the Kerzerslauf. This run serves as an ideal form test for the upcoming season. Almost 10,000 take advantage of this opportunity every year at the traditional event. Over the five kilometers, there is not only a popular run, but also elite runs.
Towards the end of the year, on the other hand, a trip to Wallisellen is worthwhile. There you have another chance to run a best time at the Walliseller Lauf.
Many women's races
The ladies are completely among themselves at the many women's races, such as in Bern or Basel. At the Basel Women's Run and the Swiss Women's Run in Bern, well over 1,000 women runners compete over the five-kilometer distance.
